BASILIO of SOISSONS. — Entered the Capuchins of the Province of Paris on 20 April 1635, d. 3 March 1698. He was an active member of the Capuchin mission in England at the court of Queen Henrietta of France; on his return to his homeland he put to good use his theological learning and his controversial experience against Protestantism in various works, both in defence of the Eucharist and of the true religion, and in expositions of the fundamentals of Christian doctrine, based principally on Holy Scripture. These writings, often reworked, saw numerous editions, both complete and partial.
