BEMBO, BENEDETTO. - A painter from Brescia, in 1462 he signed a polyptych with the Virgin, Child, and four saints, formerly in the Castle of Torchiara (Parma) and subsequently in the Davanzati palace in Florence.
In the same castle, almost contemporaneously, he painted the sala d'oro with a lively narrative spirit. In 1465 he was working in Bergamo. Also by him are a Flight into Egypt (fragmentary) in S. Michele in Cremona and three parts of a polyptych in the museum of the same city. In the frescoes at Cremona and Torchiara, and also in the polyptych of the Davanzati palace, B. still shows himself to follow the forms of International Gothic; in the panels of the Cremona polyptych, however, he suggests that he had already understood certain aspects of Vincenzo Foppa’s style.
