BEMBO, BENEDETTO. — Brescian painter who, in 1462, signed a polyptych with the Virgin, the Child and four saints, formerly in the Castello di Torchiara (Parma) and later in Florence at Palazzo Davanzati.
In the same castle, almost contemporaneously, he painted with lively narrative spirit in the Sala d’Oro. In 1465 he worked in Bergamo. Among his surviving works are a fragmentary *Flight into Egypt* in S. Michele in Cremona and three sections of a polyptych in the museum of the same city. Bembo, whose frescoes in Cremona and Torchiara and the polyptych in Palazzo Davanzati still show traces of International Gothic forms, reveals in the panels of the Cremona polyptych that he had already grasped certain aspects of the style of Vincenzo Foppa.
