BOIL (Boyl, Buil, Bugl), Bernardo. - Born of the noble Aragonese family of the same name in the first half of the 15th century. Secretary to Ferdinand the Catholic, he abandoned the court to lead a hermit's life at Montserrat, where he devoted himself to the study of the doctrine of Raymond Lull. Ordained a priest in 1481, and having come to know St. Francis of Paola, he became a Minim, soon becoming the first vicar of the Congregation in Spain. He is remembered in the bull of Alexander VI of 25 June 1493. In that same year he accompanied Christopher Columbus (v.) on his second voyage to America. Having returned to his homeland after about a year, he transferred to the Benedictines; he was elected abbot of St. Michael of Cusca, where he died in 1510.
