BOIL (BOYL, BUIL, BUGL), BERNARDO. - Born into the noble Aragonese family of the same name in the first half of the 15th century. Secretary to Ferdinand the Catholic, he left the court to lead an eremitical life at Monserrato, where he devoted himself to the study of Raimondo Lullo’s doctrine. Ordained priest in 1481, and having come to know s. Francesco da Paola, he became a Minim, shortly thereafter becoming the first vicar of the Congregation in Spain. He is mentioned in the bull of Alessandro VI of 25 June 1493. In that COLOMBA (v.) on his second voyage to America. Having returned to his homeland after about a year, he joined the Benedictines; he was elected abbot of S. Michele di Cusca, where he died in 1510.
