BOUTS, DIRK - Last Supper - museum of Louvain.
BOUTS, DIRK (THIERRY). - Dutch painter, b. in Haarlem between 1400 and 1420, d. in 1475 in Louvain.
The following works are documented: the Last Supper (in the church of St. Peter in Louvain: 1464-68), the Justice of Emperor Otto (museum of Brussels); certain works are also: the altarpiece of St. Erasmus (in St. Peter's in Louvain, 1448), the shutters of the Judgment (Paris-Lille, ca. 1470) and other paintings in the museum of the Prado and in Granada. Other works, such as the Madonna of the Correr museum in Venice and that of the Carrand collection in Florence, are disputed among the numerous works of B.'s school. The most significant and typically Dutch element of his painting is a highly sensitive colorism, while in drawing he is influenced by Rogier van der Weyden (v.). B. was also famous as a portraitist.
