BRIGIDA di GESÙ. - In the world Morello, foundress of the Ursulines of Piacenza, born at Pagana, near Rapallo, on 17 June 1610, died on 3 Sept. 1679. Having married Matteo Zingani, she went to live at Tabiano (Reggio Emilia); after the death of her husband, on 11 Nov. 1637, she took a vow of perpetual chastity and in 1645–49 founded in Piacenza a house of Ursulines, modelled on the one which had arisen at Parma the previous year, for the education of girls. She was favoured with extraordinary charisms; her valuable teachings on the spiritual life were collected in the Documenti lasciati alle sue figliuole spirituali dalla madre B. di Gesù fondatrice del collegio di S. Orsola in Piacenza (Turin 1876). The cause has not yet been officially introduced, but on 14 Nov. 1934 the decree approving her writings was issued.
