BUONPENSIERE, Enrico. — Dominican theologian, b. at Terlizzi on 26 Oct. 1853, d. at Rome on 18 Jan. 1929. He successively taught dogmatic and moral theology; he was prior of the Minerva (1894–97) and regent of the college of S. Tommaso in Rome (1897–1910). After the opening of the Angelicum college (1910) he suspended teaching, which he resumed three years later at the Lateran Athenaeum. He served as theologian of the Apostolic Dataria and as consultor to the Congregations of Studies, of the Index, and of Propaganda Fide.
He wrote an extensive and subtle commentary on the Summa of St Thomas, though he published only two volumes of it, comprising the treatises De Deo uno (Rome 1902) and De Trinitate (Vergara 1930, posthumous).
