CALCO, GIACOMO. – A Carmelite, originally from Lodi and professor at the University of Pavia. Having gone to Paris, there he championed the cause of Henry VIII, king of England; he was interned in the convent of Rouen, then, through the intervention of the king of France, released, and went to England, where he was showered with honours by that king. But by the General Chapter of his Order, in 1532, he was degraded and condemned to imprisonment; he died of the plague in London on 19 August 1533.
He wrote: De genealogia Christi; De purgatorii loco; De Primatu Romani Pontificis; De divortio Henrici VIII Anglorum regii, and others.
