CALDES, PEDRO. — Spanish Carthusian, born in 1537
at Llummayor, on the island of Majorca. He first lived
among the Franciscans for 15 years and was an outstanding preacher;
at the University of Salamanca he had Domingo Soto (v.) as his
teacher. He entered the Carthusian Order at the
Carthusian monastery of Majorca. Elected prior, he died in that office on
28 October 1595, at the age of 58, 25 of which he had spent
in the charterhouse.
He wrote: Vida, revelaciones y miracles de la V. sor
Catharina Thomas, a manuscript that later served the
Carthusian don Valperga for the compilation of the life
of the Servant of God; De instructione Missae, manuscript;
Instructió que ensenye lo que deu considerar y contemplar
lo christió y servent del Senyor quant á la Santa misa
(Barcelona 1588).
