Caldes, Pedro

CALDES, PEDRO. - Spanish Carthusian, b. in 1537
at Llummayor, on the island of Majorca. He first lived
among the Franciscans for 15 years and was a distinguished preacher;
at the University of Salamanca he had as his teacher Domingo Soto (v.). He passed to the Carthusian Order in the charterhouse of Majorca. Elected prior, he died in that office on
28 Oct. 1595, at the age of 58 years, of which 25 were lived
in the charterhouse.

He wrote: Vida, revelaciones y miracles de la v. sor
Catharina Thomas, a manuscript that later served the
Carthusian don Valperga for the compilation of the life
of the Servant of God; De instructione Missae, manuscript;
Instructió que ensenye lo que deu considerar y contemplar
lo christió y servent del Senyor quant á la Santa misa
(Barcelona 1588).
