CAPORALI, BARTOLOMEO. - Painter, born at Perugia about 1420 and died in 1504 or 1505. At first a follower of Benozzo Gozzoli, he later drew close to his Umbrian contemporaries, also revealing the influence of the art of Pietro della Francesca, while in his late works he eventually showed himself attracted into the orbit of Pinturicchio.
Besides the polyptych executed in 1467 in collaboration with Bonfigli for the church of S. Domenico (Perugia Gallery), among his works deserving mention are: the frescoes in the chapel of S. Antonio at Deruta (1480), the Pietà (1486) in Perugia Cathedral, and the fresco of the Madonna and various saints in the church of Monte l'Abate; dating from 1491 is the fresco of S. Francesco at Montone, clear evidence of the versatility of his art. - Vedi Tav. XLVI.
