CAPORALI, BARTOLOMEO. - Painter, b. in Perugia ca. 1420 and d. in 1504 or 1505. At first a follower of Benozzo Gozzoli, he later drew closer to his Umbrian contemporaries, also revealing the influence of the art of Piero della Francesca, while in his late works he ends up showing himself drawn into the orbit of Pinturicchio.

Besides the polyptych executed in 1467 in collaboration with Bonfigli for the church of St. Dominic (gallery of Perugia), among his works the following deserve to be remembered: the frescoes in the chapel of St. Anthony at Deruta (1480), the Pietà (1486), in the cathedral of Perugia, the fresco with the Madonna and various saints in the church of Monte l'Abate; from 1491 is the fresco of St. Francis in Montone, clear proof of the versatility of his art. - See Pl.
