CAPPELLAZZI, ANDREA. - Neo-Thomist philosopher and theologian, b. May 2, 1854 at Monte Cremano, d. at Crema on Oct. 3, 1933. A pious and zealous priest, in his early years he was assistant to his uncle, provost of S. Pietro Apostolo (Crema), then, from 1880 to 1920, he taught philosophy, canon law and sociology in the seminary of Cremona. From 1892 he was a member of the Roman Academy of St. Thomas. An extremely prolific writer, he left about 60 volumes and 160 articles in various journals, in which are brought into focus the most burning philosophical questions agitated in the fifty years that run from Leo XIII's Aeterni Patris to Pius XI's Studiorum ducem: upon all of them C. spreads the clarifying light of Thomist thought. As a theologian he wrote: L'Eucaristia
(Turin 1898), Corso di apologetica cristiana (3 vols., Crema-Lodi 1911-13) and various other essays.
