CAPPELLAZZI, ANDREA. - Neo-Thomist philosopher and theologian, b. 2 May 1854 at Monte Cremano, d. at Crema 3 Oct. 1933. A pious and zealous priest, in his early years he was assistant to his uncle, parish priest of S. Pietro Apostolo (Crema); then, from 1880 to 1920, he taught philosophy, canon law, and sociology at the seminary of Cremona. From 1892 he was a member of the Roman Academy of S. Tommaso. An exceedingly prolific writer, he left about 60 volumes and 160 articles in various journals, in which the most pressing philosophical questions debated during the half-century from Leo XIII’s Aeterni Patris to Pius XI’s Studiorum ducem are brought into focus: upon all of them C. sheds the clarifying light of Thomist thought.
