Domenico CAPRIOLO. — Painter, born in Venice in 1494, died in Treviso on 3 Oct. 1528. A pupil of P. M. Pennacchi, he was later drawn into the orbit of Pordenone and D. Mancini, with whom he was often confused.
Three works by him are known: *Adoration of the Shepherds*, 1518 (Treviso, Pinacoteca); *Assumption*, 1520 (Treviso, Cathedral); *Portrait of a Gentleman*, 1528 (Bernard Castle, Bowes Museum). Modern criticism adds others to these, including some prophets in the lacunars of the ceiling of S. Maria dei Miracoli in Venice.
