CAPRIOLO, DOMENICO. — Painter, born in Venice in 1494, died in Treviso on 3 October 1528. A pupil of P. M. Pennacchi, he was later drawn into the orbit of Pordenone and D. Mancini, with whom he was often confused.
Three works by him are known: Adoration of the Shepherds, 1518 (Treviso, picture gallery); Assumption, 1520 (Treviso, cathedral); Portrait of a Gentleman, 1528 (Barnard Castle, Bowes Museum). Modern criticism adds others, including several prophets in the coffers of the ceiling of S. Maria dei Miracoli in Venice.
