ANTONIO CAVALLUCCI. — Painter, born in Sernomenta (Rome) on 21 Aug. 1752, died in Rome on 18 Nov. 1795. He was a pupil of Stefano Pozzi and Gaetano Lapis, but soon inclined toward the manner of Menes and Batoni.
Some of his portraits form the best part of his output, such as the very fine one of St Joseph Labre in the Corsini Gallery in Rome. He worked in fresco at the Caetani castle in Sermoneta and for them also executed portraits and miniatures. Among his other works are cited: Scenes from the Life of St Peter and the Apostles (above the windows in the sacristies of the Canons and of the Beneficiati in St Peter’s, Vatican); St Elijah and Purgatory (in S. Martino ai Monti, Rome); Vesting of St Bona (Pisa, Duomo); Presentation of Mary in the Temple (Spoleto, Duomo); Dream of Joseph (1788, Subiaco, parish church).
