CAVALLUCCI, ANTONIO. - Painter, born at Sermoneta (Rome) on 21 Aug. 1752, died at Rome on 18 Nov. 1795. He was a pupil of Stefano Pozzi and Gaetano Lapis, but soon inclined toward the manner of Menga and Batoni.
Several portraits constitute the finest part of his output, such as the very beautiful one of St. Giuseppe Labre in the Corsini Gallery in Rome. He worked in fresco in the Caetani castle at Sermoneta and also executed portraits and miniatures for them. The following works are also attributed to him: Scenes from the Life of St. Peter and the Apostles (over-window paintings in the sacristy of the Canons and in that of the Beneficed Clergy in St. Peter’s in the Vatican); St. Elijah and Purgatory (in S. Martino ai Monti, Rome); The Taking of the Habit by St. Bona (Pisa, Cathedral); Presentation of Mary in the Temple (Spoleto, Cathedral); Dream of St. Joseph (1788, Subiaco, parish church).
