CARCERERI, STANISLAO. - Of the Ministers of the Sick, missionary in Central Africa. Born at Cerro Veronese on 19 January 1840, died at Bovolone (Verona) on 5 March 1899. He entered the Order of St. Camillus in 1851 and was ordained a priest in 1862. In 1859, while not yet a priest, he had assisted the wounded of the battle of San Martino and Solferino, and in 1866 he assisted those of Custoza. From 1867 to 1877, together with some of his confreres, of whom he was placed in charge, he assisted Msgr. Comboni in the mission of Central Africa, showing great spirit of initiative and organization.

Having returned to his homeland, he was superior of the house of the Camillians at Lille in France and at Roermond in Holland, and he held the office of procurator general and then of vicar general of his Order. To him is due the first geographical map of the region of Kordofan, which he had explored in 1870-71.

C. also wrote several interesting reports on the mission of Central Africa.
