CASSIAN OF TANGIER, Saint. - He probably suffered martyrdom in 298. Although he is mentioned by Prudentius (Peristephanon, IV, 45), it seems certain that no document about his death could have existed, since in order to make a story for him it was thought well to add a notice in an appendix to the Passio Marcelli, a Tingitan martyr put to death on 30 November of the same year.

According to this Passio, C. would have been secretary to the vicar of the praetorian prefect of Tangier, Agricolanus; and, witnessing the unjust condemnation of Marcellus, he would have protested by throwing away the stylus and the tablets on which he was writing; arrested and tried, he would have been condemned to death. In the Hieronymian Martyrology he is commemorated on 3 December.
