CASTELLANI, CASTELLANO de'. - Priest, poet, and author of sacred representations, b. probably at Prato in 1461, d. perhaps in 1519. He held the extraordinary lectureship in canon law at the University of Pisa from 1489, knew G.rolamo Savonarola and for a time shared his ideas, was a friend of the Medici, and from 1498 vicar of the bishop of Fiesole.
The best collection of his poetic compositions appeared in Venice in 1521 under the title Opera spirituale di m. C. de' C. But above all worthy of mention are his sacred representations: s. Eufrasio, s. Onofrio (Storia di s. Onofrio, in Le sacre rappresentazioni ital., edited by M. Bonfantini, Milan 1942, pp. 498-535), as well as his versification of the Sunday Gospels (Florence 1514).
