CIUDAD DE DIOS, LA. - A journal of ecclesiastical culture published by the Augustinian Hermits of Spain.
Begun in Jan. 1881 under the title Revista augustiniana, in July 1887 it assumed its present name, under which it appeared until the end of 1926; from 1927 to 1935 it was published together with the other Augustinian journal España y Amé-
rica under the common title Religión y Cultura; from 1936, after the interruption caused by the civil war, it has continued under the resumed title La C. de D. Initially devoted to illustrating the life and history of the Augustinian Order in the Ibero-American countries, the Philippines, and China, it became, during its best period (from about 1888 to 1912), a journal of a rather general character; it now deals chiefly with ecclesiastical scholarship, especially patristics. From 1881 to 1899 it was issued at Valladolid; from 1890 to 1920 at Madrid; from 1921 onward at the Escorial. Its periodicity varies; it is presently published every four months. Davide Gutierrez
