LA CITY OF GOD. – A journal of ecclesiastical culture published by the Augustinian Hermits of Spain.
It began in January 1881 under the title *Revista agustiniana*, and in July 1887 it assumed its present name, under which it continued until the end of 1926. From 1927 to 1935 it was published jointly with the other Augustinian journal *España y América* under the common title *Religión y Cultura*. After the interruption caused by the civil war, it resumed publication in 1936 under its former title, *La Ciudad de Dios*. Initially dedicated to illustrating the life and history of the Augustinian Order in the Ibero-American countries, the Philippines, and China, it became, during its prime period (c. 1888–1912), a journal of a more general character. Now it deals predominantly with ecclesiastical erudition, especially patristics. From 1881 to 1890 it appeared in Valladolid; from 1890 to 1920 in Madrid; and from 1921 onward in El Escorial. Its frequency has varied; at present it is a quarterly.
