GAVARDI, FEDERICO NICOLA

GAVARDl, Federico Nicola. — Augustinian theologian and orator, b. in Milan on 15 Feb. 1640, d. 12 June 1715. From 1665 to 1690 he taught theology in many convents of the Order, then at the Sapienza in Rome for 25 years.

He wrote: *Theologia exantiquata inxita orthodoxam Augustini doctrinam*, a doctore *fundatissimo Aegidio Columna expositam* (6 vols., Naples-Rome 1678-96). This is the most extensive theological course «ad mentem Aegidii Romani», completed by B. Sichrowsky (4 vols., Nuremberg 1720); *Philosophia vindicata ab erroribus philosophorum iusta doctrinam* b. P. Augustini et Aegidii Columna (Rome 1701); *Votum adversus opus Petri de Marca, de concordia sacerdotii et imperii* (manuscript). The personality of *A. Fuenza del G.* still awaits a thorough study.
