GAVANTI, BARTOLOMEO. – Liturgist, of the Congregation of the Barnabites, born in Monza in 1569, died in Milan on 14 August 1638. Called to Rome, he worked under Clement VIII and Urban VIII on the revision of the Breviary and the Missal. He was one of the foremost liturgical authorities of his time. His principal works are: Thesaurus sacrorum viiuum, sive commentarium in rubricas Missalis et Breviarii (Milan 1628); Praxis visitationis episcopalis et synodis diocesanae celebrandae (Rome 1628). He also prepared the Octavarium Romanum, which was reprinted several times.
