GAVANTI, Bartolomeo. — Liturgist of the Barnabite Congregation, born in Monza in 1569, died in Milan on 14 Aug. 1638. Called to Rome, he worked under Clement VIII and Urban VIII on the revision of the Breviary and the Missal. He was one of the foremost liturgical authorities of his time. His principal works are: *Thesaurus sacrorum rituum, sive commemorationem in rubricas Missalis et Breviarii* (Milan 1628); *Praxis visitationis episcopalis et synodis diocesanas celebrandae* (Rome 1628). He also prepared the *Octavarium Romanum*, which was reprinted several times.
