FUSCO, ALFONSO MARIA. – Priest, born at Angri (Campania) on 23 March 1839, died there on 6 February 1910. Having entered the Seminary of Nocera de' Pagani at a very young age, he was ordained a priest there on 30 May 1869.
Devoting himself to the apostolic ministry, in 1866 he was tireless in assisting those afflicted by cholera. On 26 September 1898, together with Maddalena Caputo, a woman of exceptional intelligence, he founded the Sisters of St. John the Baptist for the instruction and education of the children of the people. Humble, pious, and poor, he devoted all his energies to the spiritual welfare of his Institute, which he was able to see grow, multiply, and reach distant lands. His cause of beatification is under way.
