Fusco, Alfonso Maria

Italian original Cite

FUSCO, ALFONSO MARIA. - Priest, b. at Angri (Campania) on 23 March 1839, d. there, on 6 Feb. 1910. He entered the Seminary of Nocera de' Pagani at a very young age, and was ordained a priest there on 30 May 1869.

Having devoted himself to the apostolic ministry, he was tireless, in 1866, on behalf of those stricken by cholera. On 26 Sept. 1898, together with Maddalena Caputo, a woman of outstanding intellect, he founded the Sisters of St. John the Baptist for the instruction and education of the children of the people. Humble, pious and poor, he dedicated all his energies to the spiritual good of his Institute, which he was able to see grow, multiply and reach distant lands. The cause for his beatification is in progress.
