GAISSER, Ugo ATANASIO. — Musicologist, born in Aitrach on 1 December 1853, died in Ettal on 6 October 1920.
A Benedictine monk at Beuron, he subsequently went to Maredsous, where he was ordained a priest in 1878. Having specialized in the study of Byzantine sacred music, in 1896 he was called to the Greek College of S. Atanasio in Rome, where he was professor and lecturer in Greek chant. He wrote on Greek musical historiography in various journals. Notable publications also include Le système musical de l'Église grecque d'après la tradition (Rome 1901) and Les « heirmus » de Pâques dans l'office grec (there 1905). Silverio Matisi
