FLANDINO, AMBROGIO. — Augustinian theologian, b. in Naples ca. 1460, d. 24 Sept. 1531. In 1508 regent of the Studium at Bologna, in 1509 of that at Florence, in 1514 superior of the Neapolitan province, and in 1517 (10 Apr.) was elected auxiliary bishop of Mantua. A preacher and representative of Christian humanism, he was one of the first opponents of Luther.
He wrote: *De animarum immortalitate contra Petrum Pomponatum* (Mantua 1519); *Quadragesimalium concionum liber* (Venice 1523); *Quod non sit abroganda Missa secundum consuetudinem Romanae Ecclesiae*; *Quod translatum sit a Christo in Petrum et successores eius verum sacerdotium et denique quod Missa sit verum sacrificium*, against Luther. Only the first two were printed.
