CONON, bishop of TARSO. - A heretic of the 6th century. Following Monophysitism, he adhered to the teachings of John Philoponus of Alexandria, which led to tritheism by admitting in the Holy Trinity, besides three Persons, three Natures.
Conon and Eugenius of Seleucia, defeated in a disputation, refused to anathematize John Philoponus, from whom, however, Conon later separated over the question of the resurrection of bodies. The sect founded by Conon was called the Cononites (Nicephorus Callistus, Hist. eccl., XVIII, 49: PG 147, 428-32).
