CONONE, bishop of TARSO. – Heretic of the sixth century. Beginning from Monophysitism, he followed the doctrines of Giovanni Filopono of Alexandria, which led to tritheism by admitting three Natures in the Most Holy Trinity in addition to the three Persons.
C. and Eugenio of Seleucia, defeated in a disputation, refused to anathematize Giovanni Filopono, from whom, however, C. separated over the question of the resurrection of bodies. The sect founded by C. was called that of the canonists (Niceforo Callisto, Hist. eccl., XVIII, 49: PG 147, 428–32).
