CORNEJO PEDROSA, PIETRO de. - Carmelite theologian, b. in 1566 at Salamanca, d. there on 31 March 1618.
Appointed holder of one of the chairs of philosophy at the University of Salamanca in 1566, he defended his degree thesis in the presence of King Filippo III and received the degree of master of theology on 30 June 1600. He was subsequently (1601–1607) professor of moral philosophy and held (1607–1608) the chair of s. Tommaso, and from 1608 until his death that of Durando. He was one of the best commentators on s. Tommaso and was held in the highest esteem also by Paolo V, who listened to him preach in S. Pietro in Rome, and by King Filippo, who consulted him in matters of great importance. His commentaries on s. Tommaso were published at Valladolid in 1628–29 and later at Bamberg in 1671. He should not be confused with a namesake of his, a historiographer born c. 1536.
