CORNEJO PEDROSA, PIETRO de. - Carmelite theologian, born in 1566 in Salamanca, died there on 31 March 1618.
Appointed to one of the chairs of philosophy at the University of Salamanca in 1596, he defended his doctoral thesis in the presence of King Philip III and received the degree of Master of Theology on 30 June 1600. He then served as professor of moral philosophy (1601–1607) and held the chair of St Thomas (1607–1608), and from 1608 until his death the chair of Durandus. He was one of the most distinguished commentators on St Thomas and was held in the highest esteem by Paul V, who listened to him preach in St Peter’s in Rome, and by King Philip, who consulted him on matters of great importance. His commentaries on St Thomas were published in Valladolid in 1628–29 and later in Bamberg in 1671. He should not be confused with a namesake, a historian born c. 1536.
