COSMA of SANTO STEFANO. - Carmelite, better known by the name of Cosma de Villiers, b. at St-Denis (near Paris), 18 Sept. 1683, was professor of philosophy and theology in various colleges of his Order, as well as prior and provincial commissioner, dean of the literary society of Orléans from 1741, superior of the house for the education of women converted from heresy; d. at Orléans in 1758.
C. de Villiers had the great merit of collecting all the information concerning the writers, saints and bishops of the Carmelite Order in the work: *Bibliotheca Carmelitana, notis criticis et dissertationibus illustrata* (Orléans 1752, new ed. by Fr. Wessels, Rome 1927); he also wrote *La vie de Michel Jacob, O. Carm.* (ibid. 1739).
