COSTANTINO I

CONSTANTINE I. - Armenian katholikos, b. in 1220, d. 9 April 1267, called Bartarberdtzi, praised as a virtuous and wise man by his contemporaries. He had the merit of having convoked the Armenian Synod of Sis in 1242, whose Acts he transmitted with an encyclical letter of his to the Eastern Armenians, where they were accepted; he sent to Pope Innocent IV the orthodox faith of the Armenians concerning the procession of the Holy Spirit, and in 1245 also his own profession of faith. With the Greeks he agreed concerning the Chalcedonian christological formula.

In the span of the 13th-14th centuries there are three other Armenian katholikoi of the same name, not to be confused with one another.
