CHRISTINA OF SPOLETO, Blessed. - Agostina Camozzi, b. at Porlezza, at the beginning of the 15th century. Having married before she was twenty and been left a widow shortly afterwards, she gave herself over for some years to vanities and the disordered pleasures of the flesh. Sincerely converted to God, she devoted herself to pilgrimages to the principal sanctuaries of Italy, and to living as an austere penitent in the Third Order Regular of St. Augustine, to which, having taken the name of C., she was aggregated in Verona. She often changed monasteries for her residence, always with the aim of living unknown, with the sole thought of atoning for her sins and of growing in the love of God. Rich in merits, she d. at Spoleto on 13 Feb. 1458. Acclaimed as a saint from the time of her death, her cult grew through the centuries, and the Church officially ratified it under the pontificate of Gregory XVI.
