Christina Of Spoleto, Blessed

CRISTINA da SPOLETO, Blessed. — Agostina Camozzi, born at Porlezza at the beginning of the fifteenth century. Married before she was twenty and widowed shortly thereafter, she abandoned herself for some years to vanities and to the disordered pleasures of the flesh. Having sincerely converted to God, she devoted herself to pilgrimages to the principal shrines of Italy and to living as an austere penitent in the Regular Third Order of S. Agostino, to which, having taken the name C., she was admitted in Verona. She frequently changed monasteries in which to reside, always with the aim of living unknown, thinking only of expiating her faults and growing in the love of God. Rich in merits, she died at Spoleto on 13 February 1458. Acclaimed as a saint from the time of her death, her cult grew through the centuries, and the Church officially ratified it under the pontificate of Gregorio XVI.
