CUNIBERTO, saint. — Bishop of Cologne, born of a noble Frankish family in the region of the Mosella toward the end of the 6th century, he died in Cologne on 12 November 663. Educated at Treviri, he became archdeacon there and was appointed bishop of Cologne around 623. He took part in various Frankish synods, was counsellor to Dagoberto I, king of Austrasia, founded monasteries, and devoted himself to the missions in Frisia (Olanda). He was buried in the church of S. Clemente, which he had built and which was later dedicated to him. His feast is on 11 November; the Roman Martyrology commemorates him on 12 November.
