DALL'ONGARO, FRANCESCO. — Writer, b. at Mansuè (Treviso) on 19 June 1808, d. at Naples on 10 January 1873. He completed his theological studies at Padua but abandoned an ecclesiastical career to devote himself to politics and journalism. In 1848 he took part in the events in Venice and Rome. After the fall of the Roman Republic he went into exile and returned to Italy in 1859, thereafter teaching dramatic literature at the Universities of Florence and Naples.
His hurried literary output belonged to the anticlerical trend of the time. Among his works are: Novelle, the comedy Fasma, the tragedy Bianca Capello, the historical drama Il Fornaretto, Saggi critici, and various poems (including the Stornelli politici), etc.
