DALL'ONGARO, FRANCESCO. — Writer, b. at Mansuè (Treviso) on 19 June 1808, d. at Naples on 10 Jan. 1873. He completed his theological studies at Padua, but abandoned an ecclesiastical career to devote himself to politics and journalism. In 1848 he took part in the events in Venice and Rome. An exile after the Roman Republic, he returned to his homeland in 1859 and taught dramatic literature at the Universities of Florence and Naples.
His hurried literary production belongs to the anticlerical current of the time. He wrote: Novelle, the comedy Fasma, the tragedy Bianca Capello, the historical drama Il Fornaretto, Saggi critici, Poesie varie (including the Stornelli politici), etc.
