DALLET, CLAUDE-CHARLES. — Born at Langres (Haute-Marne) on 18 Oct. 1829. On 5 Oct. 1850 he entered the Paris Seminary of the Foreign Missions, and, having been ordained priest on 5 June 1852, he immediately set out for Mysore (India). At first he was assistant priest at Bangalore, and in 1857 he was put in charge of the Mysore district, devoting himself to the cholera-stricken.
In 1859 he published the Controversial Catechism. Falling ill in 1857, he returned to France. In 1871 he visited America and helped to establish the Chinese-Japanese museum at Laval University in Quebec. In 1872–73, with the aid of manuscripts by Mgr M. Daveluy (q.v.), he wrote the Histoire de l'Église de Corée (Paris 1874). He then toured the missions of the Far East to write the history of his own seminary and died at Ke-so (Tonkin) on 25 Apr. 1878.
