DALLET, CLAUDE-CHARLES. - Born at Langres (Haute-Marne) on 18 Oct. 1829. On 5 Oct. 1850 he entered the seminary of the Foreign Missions of Paris, and, ordained a priest on 5 June 1852, he departed at once for Mysore (India). He was first a vicar at Bangalore and then in 1857 was placed in charge of the district of Mysore, devoting himself to the natives.

In 1859 he published the Controversial Cathechism. Having fallen ill, in 1857 he returned to France. In 1871 he visited America and contributed to the creation of the Sino-Japanese museum of Laval University in Quebec. In 1872-73, with the help of the manuscripts of Msgr. M. Daveluy (v.), he wrote the Histoire de l'Eglise de Corée (Paris 1874). He then made a tour of the missions of East Asia in order to write the history of his seminary, and died at Ke-so (Tonkin) on 25 Apr. 1878.
