DALLET, CLAUDE-CHARLES. – Born at Langres (Haute-Marne) on 18 October 1829. On 5 October 1850 he entered the Seminary of the Foreign Missions of Paris and, having been ordained a priest on 5 June 1852, immediately departed for Maysore (India). He was first vicar at Bangalore and then, in 1857, was entrusted with the district of Maysore, devoting himself to them.
In 1859 he published the Controversial Cathechism. Having fallen ill, he returned to France in 1857. In 1871 he visited America and contributed to the creation of the Sino-Japanese museum of Laval University in Québec. In 1872–73, with the aid of the manuscripts of Msgr. M. Daveluy (v.), he wrote the Histoire de l'Eglise de Corée (Paris 1874). He then made a tour of the missions of East Asia in order to write the history of his seminary, and died at Ke-so (Tonchin) on 25 April 1878.
