DIURNO (DIURNALE) — It is the liturgical book that contains only the daytime hours of the divine Office, that is, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers and Compline, with all the antiphons, responsories, hymns, lessons, prayers, etc., proper to the season, the saints and the Common. The first editions date from the fifteenth century (Paris 1496); others followed in different countries and centuries, e.g., Lyons 1551, Antwerp 1553, Venice 1665, etc. In Rome, a revised edition, by order of Clement VIII, was produced in 1602.
