DIURNO (Diurnale) — This is the liturgical book containing only the daytime Hours of the Divine Office, namely Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline, together with all the antiphons, responsories, hymns, readings, prayers, etc., proper to the season, the saints, and the Commons. The earliest editions date from the 15th century (Paris 1496), with others appearing in various countries and centuries, e.g., Lyons 1551, Antwerp 1553, Venice 1665, etc. In Rome, a revised edition, by order of Clement VIII, was issued in 1602.
