DIURNO (DIURNALE)

DIURNAL (DIURNALE) - It is the liturgical book that contains only the daytime hours of the divine Office, that is, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers and Compline, with all the antiphons, responsories, hymns, lessons, prayers, etc., proper to the season, the saints and the common. The first editions date back to the 15th century (Paris 1496); others followed in various countries and centuries, e.g., Lyon 1551, Antwerp 1553, Venice 1665, etc. In Rome, a revised edition, by order of Clement VIII, was made in 1602.
