DOMENICO di SANTA TERESA. - In the world D. Alonso y Pérez, Discalced Carmelite theologian, b. in 1604 at La Alberca (Castile), d. at Madrid in 1660 (not in 1654, as others mistakenly wrote).
He taught theology for 24 years at the college of Salamanca, becoming highly esteemed also in University circles. He is known by the name of «doctor consumatus» because of his extraordinary theological and philosophical learning. During that period he published volumes IV and V of the celebrated Cursus theologicus Salmanticeensis (Salamanca 1647), containing the treatises: De fine ultimo, de beatitudine, de voluntario, de bonitate et malitia actuum humanorum, de peccatis. He was then elected (1658) general definitor and transferred to Madrid, where he became known for his great virtue and inexhaustible charity toward the poor and the afflicted.
