DOMIZIO, saint, martyr. - At the beginning of the sixth century a martyr D. is mentioned in a homily by Bishop Severo of Antiochia, but without further details, while at the end of the same century Giovanni Malala speaks of an anchorite and martyr D. put to death by Giuliano l'Apostata and venerated near Ciro in Syria. His highly legendary Passio was evidently composed on the model of the life of another D., a Persian physician, venerated at Quros in Armenia and with whom ours has also been confused. According to the testimonies of Malala and the Passio, D. would have died on 6 March 363 and been transferred to Ciro on 5 July 365; but neither of the two dates is found in the Eastern martyrologies. Feast on 5 July.
