DOMITIUS, Saint, martyr. — At the beginning of the 6th century a martyr named Domitius is recalled in a homily by Bishop Severus of Antioch, but without further details, while at the end of the same century John Malalas speaks of a Domitius, an anchorite and martyr, put to death by Julian the Apostate and venerated near Cyrrhus in Syria. His highly legendary *Passio* was evidently composed along the lines of the life of another Domitius, a Persian physician venerated at Quros in Armenia, with whom our saint has also been confused. According to the testimony of Malalas and the *Passio*, Domitius is said to have died on 6 March 363 and to have been transferred to Cyrrhus on 5 July 365; yet neither of these dates appears in the Eastern martyrologies.
