DRAGONI, GIOVANNI ANDREA. - Musician, b. at Mendola ca. 1540, d. at Rome in 1598. A pupil of Palestrina, he was choirmaster of St. John Lateran from 1576.
He published a book of Motets for all the saints of the year for 5 voices (Venice 1578); 4 books of Madrigals for 5 (ibid. 1574, 1575, 1594, 1594), a book of Madrigals for 4 (ibid. 1581), one of Madrigals for 6 (ibid. 1584) and a Benedictus for 8, which was performed for 200 years in the Lateran basilica. Another book of Madrigals for 6 was published posthumously by Muzio (Rome 1600).
