DRAGONI, GIOVANNI ANDREA

DRAGONI, GIOVANNI ANDREA. – Musician, born in Mendola ca. 1540, died in Rome in 1598. A pupil of Palestrina, he was choirmaster of S. Giovanni in Laterano from 1576.

He published a book of Mottetti per tutti i santi dell'anno a 5 voci (Venice 1578); 4 books of Madrigali a 5 (ibid. 1574, 1575, 1594, 1594), a book of Madrigali a 4 (ibid. 1581), one of Madrigali a 6 (ibid. 1584), and a Benedictus a 8, which was performed for 200 years in the Lateran Basilica.
