GIOVANNI ANDREA DRAGONI. — Musician, born at Mendola ca. 1540, died at Rome in 1598. A pupil of Palestrina, he was maestro di cappella at S. Giovanni in Laterano from 1576.

He published a book of motets for all the saints of the year for five voices (Venice 1578); four books of madrigals for five voices (ibid. 1574, 1575, 1594, 1594), a book of madrigals for four voices (ibid. 1584), and one for six voices (ibid. 1584), and a Benedictus was performed for 200 years in the Lateran basilica. Another book of madrigals for six voices was published posthumously by Muzio (Rome 1600).
