DE ROSSI, GIUSEPPE. - Abbot and musician, b. in Rome around the middle of the 17th century, d. there in 1719 or 1720. Choirmaster at Castel S. Angelo, then, from March 1701 to July 1711, at the S. Casa of Loreto, then at the Madonna dei Monti.
He wrote 2 Dixit, one for 16, the other for 12 voices and, among other things, a mass Solem expezo in G for 12 voices in 3 choirs with organ (1676), still in manuscript and preserved in the library of the Bologna music lyceum. Some of his sonatas, probably written around 1730, were wrongly attributed to A. Rossi.
