DRUMONT, ÉDOUARD. - Writer, born in Paris on 3 May 1844, died there on 3 Feb. 1917. A convert to Catholicism, he began the anti-Semitic campaign, denouncing Jewish responsibilities in the pamphlet La France juive (1886) and in the newspaper La libre parole, founded for that purpose in 1892. He was a brilliant and vigorous journalist, a contributor to l'Univers, La liberté, Le monde: his articles were collected in the volume Sur le chemin de la vie (1914).
Among his most important works should be mentioned: Mon vieux Paris: hommes et choses (1878), awarded by the Académie française; Les fêtes nationales de la France (1879); La fin du monde (1888); La dernière bataille (1890); Le testament d'un antisémite (1891); De l'or, de la boue, du sang (1896); Les Juifs et l'affaire Dreyfus (1899); Vieux portraits, vieux cadres (1903).
