EDRAI (Hebrew 'Edhre'). - 1. City of Transjordan, residence of Og, king of Bashan (Deut. 1:4; Josh. 12:3; 13:12). Occupied by the Israelites, E. was assigned to the tribe of Manasseh (Josh. 13:31). Ptolemy also speaks of it (V, 15, 23), as do Eusebius and St. Jerome in the Onomasticon; it is indicated on the Peutinger Table. Its name is preserved in the modern ed-Der'á, a town of the Hauran located 123 km south of Damascus; notable remains of antiquity are visible there.

2. City of the tribe of Naphtali (Josh. 19:37), situated between Kedesh (Kedheš) and En-hazor ('En-Hāsār). It is probably to be identified with present-day Ya'ter. Anello Ponsa
