EDRAI (Hebr. ‘Edhre’). — 1. City of Transjordan, residence of Og, king of Bashan (Dout. 1, 4; Jos. 12, 3; 13, 12). Occupied by the Israelites, E. was assigned to the tribe of Manasseh (Jos. 13, 31). It is also mentioned by Ptolemy (V, 15, 23), Eusebius, and s. Girolamo in the Onomasticon; it is indicated on the Peutinger Map. Its name is preserved in the modern ed-Der‘á, a city of the Hauran situated 123 km south of Damascus; notable ancient remains can be seen there.
2. City of the tribe of Nephthali (Jos. 19, 37), situated between Cedes (Kedheš) and Enhasor (‘En-Hāsār). It is probably identified with modern Ya‘ter. Anello Ponsa
