EISENHOFER, LUDWIG. – Liturgist, born in Monaco on 1 April 1871, died at Eichstätt on 29 March 1941. Ordained a priest on 29 June 1895, in 1898 he succeeded Ebner in the chair of patrology and liturgy at the Eichstätt Seminary, where from 1900 he was also professor of ecclesiastical history.
His name is linked to Thalhofer’s Handbuch der katholischen Liturgik (4th ed., Freiburg im Br. 1941), which he revised and considerably expanded, undoubtedly making it the best manual of liturgical science that we have today. A brief compendium prepared by the author was translated into Italian (Turin 1940).
