Eisenhofer, Ludwig

EISENHOFER, LUDWIG. - Liturgist, b. in Munich on 1 April 1871, d. at Eichstätt on 29 March 1941. Ordained priest on 29 June 1895, in 1898 he succeeded Ebner in the chair of patrology and liturgy at the Seminary of Eichstätt, and from 1900 he was also professor of church history there.

His name is linked to Thalhofer's Handbuch der katholischen Liturgik (4th ed., Freiburg im Breisgau 1941), which he recast and considerably enlarged, making it without doubt the best manual of liturgical science that we have today. A brief compendium of it made by the author was translated into Italian (Turin 1940).
