ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY. - Dominican, daughter of Andrew III, King of Hungary (d. 1301), and of his first wife Fenenna of Poland (d. 1295), born in Budapest around 1295, died at Töss near Winterthur (Switzerland) on 6 May 1337. While still a child she was betrothed to Wenceslaus, son of the King of Bohemia, who in 1301, barely twelve years old, was proclaimed King of Hungary under the name Ladislaus, and who in 1305 renounced that kingdom and his betrothed, E.

She, according to the wish of her stepmother, Agnes of Austria, was then supposed to marry Henry of Austria (the stepmother's brother), but the pious princess preferred the monastic veil, and from 1309 until her death she lived devoutly in the famous Dominican monastery of Töss, surrounded by the veneration of her sisters, who admired her great conformity to the will of God and her other eminent virtues. She was buried in the church of the monastery. Her cult has not yet been approved.
