ELISAMA (Heb. 'Elīlāmā' "God Hears"). - Name of various biblical figures.

1. A leader of the tribe of Ephraim (Num. 1:10; 2:18; 7:48; 10:22); the grandfather of Joshua (I Chr. 7:20).
2. Son of David (II Sam. 5:16; I Chr. 3:18; 14:7; 3:6 instead of E. is to be read as Elishama.

3. One of the clans of Jerahmeel (I Chr. 2:21).
4. A priest among those sent by King Jehoshaphat through the country to instruct the people (II Chr. 17:8).

5. Scribe of King Jehoiakim; in his chamber the scroll of the prophecies of Jeremiah was placed before speaking of it to the king (Jer. 36:12, 20 ff.).

6. The grandfather of Ishmael, the slayer of Gedaliah (Jer. 41:1; II Kings 25:25), was of royal stock; some identify him with E. no. 2.
