FEDELE FENAROLI. — Theoretical composer of music, born in Lanciano on 25 April 1730 and died in Naples on 16 January 1818. He studied with Durante, Leo, and Porpora at the Conservatory of S. Maria di Loreto in Naples and taught there from 1755 onwards at the Pietà dei Turchini.
Among his pupils were Cimarosa, Mercadante, Pavesi, and Zingarelli, and justly famous is his treatise with examples and exercises in figured bass, Partimenti e regole musicali... (Naples 1775). His sacred music is extremely numerous, including solemn Masses with orchestra, a Requiem, motets, hymns, Improperia, cantatas, Te Deum, responsories, lessons, Miserere, a Stabat Mater, and the oratorio Abbigliabile, from 1760.
