FORTI, MICHELANGELO. - Priest and patriot, b. at Cesacastina on 29 Sept. 1798, d. at Nisida in Oct. 1856. A professor in the Seminary of Teramo and a canon of that cathedral, he became parish priest at Tottea in 1827 and then again a professor at Teramo in 1841. He took a very active part in the liberal movement that followed the uprisings of 1848, for which he was arrested on 9 Aug. 1850 on charges of purloining political documents, of plotting against the government and of conspiracy, and was sentenced to 24 years to be served in the prison at Nisida. Various writings of his also survive.
