FRASCOLLA, BERARDINO MARIA. — Bishop of Foggia, born in Andria on 3 July 1811, died in Rome on 30 December 1869. A learned theologian, he taught at the Seminary and was a canon of Andria. When Pius IX, on 25 June 1855, established the new diocese of Foggia, F. became its first bishop (16 June 1856). Accused, after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, of attempting to undermine national unity, he was arrested and confined for three years in the castle of Como. He was released by amnesty in 1866 and withdrew to Andria, then to Rome.
