GINHAC, PAUL. - Jesuit, b. May 31, 1824 at Le Mazel, near Serverette (Languedoc), d. at Castres on Jan. 10, 1895.

After a crisis in his youth, he entered the Society at the age of 19, on Jan. 4, 1843. After ordination to the priesthood (1852) he held the offices of master of novices, superior and finally instructor of the third probation at Castres (1868-77), Paray-le-Monial (1877-80), Mourville (1877-80), Castres (1880-95). He was soon held in the reputation of sanctity, distinguishing himself by a profound spirit of self-denial and mortification which, though it gave him a character of austerity, was joined with an exquisite charity toward others. He was also the spiritual director of many chosen souls, among them the Bl. Marie-Thérèse de Soubiran, foundress of the Religious of Mary Help of Christians, the servant of God Marie of Jesus, foundress of the Sisters of Mary Reparatrix, the servant of God Richard Friedl, and General de Sonis. Pius XI introduced his cause of beatification on Feb. 27, 1924.
