FRIEDL, RICCARDO. - Servant of God, Jesuit, b. 16 Sept. 1847 at Split (Dalmatia), d. at Florence on 27 Feb. 1917.

Having entered the Society of Jesus on 6 Nov. 1862, he continued his religious formation in various parts of Europe as a refugee, following the fortunes of the Society, but training himself for an intense spiritual life, in which he also perfected himself under the guidance of Fr. Ginhac. Instead of the requested missions in India, he was assigned to offices of government; he was provincial of the Venetian province (1896-99) and of the Turin province (1899-1903) and promoted the Mangalore mission in India; he further encouraged workers' retreats and leagues of perseverance. A man of counsel, he directed distinguished religious and communities.
