Riccardo FRIEDL. — Servant of God, Jesuit, b. 16 Sept. 1847 at Spalato (Dalmatia), d. at Florence on 27 Feb. 1917.
Having entered the Society of Jesus on 6 Nov. 1862, he continued his religious formation in various parts of Europe as an exile, following the fortunes of the Society, but training himself for an intense spiritual life, in which he also perfected himself under the guidance of Fr. Ginach. Instead of being sent to the missions in India, he was assigned to administrative offices; he was provincial of the Venetian province (1806–09) and of the Turin province (1809–1903) and promoted the mission of Mangalore in India; he also fostered workers’ retreats and leagues of persecution. A man of counsel, he directed distinguished religious and communities.
