JOHN OF RÉOMÉ, Saint. - Abbot, b. at Dijon ca. 450, d. at St-Jean de Réomé-en-Auxois (Langres) ca. January 18, 544.

At the age of twenty he withdrew into the solitude of Réomé, where, having gathered some companions, he founded a monastery to which he gave the Rule of St. Macarius and which later took his name. From a visit made to several monasteries of the region he returned convinced that he did not know how to govern, and fled to Lérins. He returned to his foundation eighteen months later, at the request of the bishop of Langres, was elected prior there, and at once restored the flourishing of piety and discipline. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of monastic life in France. Feast on January 28.
