GRAZIANO da PARIGI. — Capuchin writer of the Parisian province, born on 5 March 1875, he took the habit of the Order on 4 October 1896, and died in Paris on 19 August 1943.
Among his publications on Franciscan topics, the *Histoire de la fondation et de l'évolution de l'Ordre des Frères Mineurs au XIIIe siècle* (Paris 1928) is particularly esteemed. This work, awarded by the French Academy, presents in a balanced judgment, through the analysis of documents and facts, the establishment of the Order amid conflicting tendencies, in that form of life and activity which corresponded to its historical mission. His death prevented him from completing the study, which stops at 1318. In the monograph *St. François d'Assise. Sa personnalité, Sa spiritualité* (Paris 1927; 2nd ed. ibid. 1928; Italian trans., Reggio Emilia 1929; Dutch trans., Rijswijk 1931; Spanish trans., Madrid 1932), he establishes its distinctive features among various interpretations. In the pamphlet *St. François d'Assise et l'influence sociale de l'Evangile* (Paris-Couvin 1910), he reveals the evangelical factors of Franciscan action. He also published valuable articles on Franciscan themes in various journals.
