GRAZIANO da PISA. - Cardinal, nephew of Eugenio III (1147–53), who lived in the 12th century under Pope Alessandro III, by whom he was sent in 1169, together with Cardinal Viviano, as legate of the Holy See to Enrico II of England, to negotiate reconciliation with St. Tommaso of Canterbury.
In 1178 he was elected cardinal deacon of the title of SS. Cosma e Damiano, and in the same year was sent back to Enrico II to pronounce excommunication against the King. Having returned to Rome, he followed the fugitive Alessandro III to Venice and was also an inseparable companion in the wanderings of the subsequent pontiffs, who entrusted him with several further missions. At the death of Celestino III he was expected to receive the tiara, but Innocenzo III was elected, who nevertheless employed him on a peace mission between Genoa and Pisa. The year of his death is unknown; it should be placed in the early years of the 13th century (he subscribed to an act of 1205).
