GUGLIELMO da CARRIANO. – Jurist of the 12th century. Of Brescian origin, his name is rarely found written out in full, but is almost always expressed by the abbreviation W. A glossator. Fairly well known in his time, he was probably, according to Sarti’s opinion, archbishop of Bologna.
G.’s Glosse (manuscripts in Bamberg, Paris, and Munich) and a Summa on the Digestum novum, mentioned by Pillio, are recorded. Other writings, such as, for example, the Casi alle Istituzioni, commonly attributed to G., are considered inauthentic by scholars.
