William of Hothum (Hozum, Hendon)

Also known as: William of Hotham; Latin: Guillelmus de Hothum

WILLIAM OF HOTHUM (HOZUM, HENDON). - Dominican theologian, d. at Dijon on 27 Aug. 1298. In 1269 he was lecturing on the Sentences of Peter Lombard at Oxford, in 1280-82 he was magister theologiae at Paris, then provincial superior of his Order for England, in 1296 archbishop of Dublin. In 1284, after the condemnation of Richard Knapwell, he defended this author and his doctrine of the unity of substantial forms against the Franciscan archbishop Peckham.

Works: a Quodlibet that was disputed in Paris in 1280, a Quaestio disputata and a Quaestio in vesperis, as well as some Sermones (all unpublished).
